Gold Knot Rings

Monday, October 26th, 2009

A beautiful and meaningful design to give to the lady in your life is the knot ring.  It is perfect to remind her of your enduring love and a great idea for an anniversary or birthday gift.  Explain why you bought it and show her how much you care with this unusual yet special present.

Supposedly, in medieval times, a lady and her knight were walking in the woods beside a river and the knight bent to pick up a flower for his lady but unfortunately the weight of his armour made him fall into the river.  Before he drowned, he through the flower to his lady and whispered “Forget-me-knot.”

In more modern times before a man left for war or to earn a living, the man would give his lady a piece of jewellery or flowers to remember him by.  The lady would wear the jewellery close to her heart or dry the flowers and keep it close until her man returned.

September Sapphire Birthstone History

Friday, September 11th, 2009

As we are still in the month of September I thought it would be interesting to give you a brief history of the remarkable September Sapphire birthstone. The Sapphire birthstone is seen as an iconic gemstone, it was one of the first precious stones known to man. Sapphires have been cut and designed for jewellery since ancient times.

The mining of Sapphires first took place in India and Sri Lanka since 7th Century BC. They where found in river beds and streams. In ancient times Sapphires were worn by Kings around the neck as a symbol of protection against harm and to bring good luck.

In the East Sapphires were considered religious, they were used to communicate with various gods. Buddhists believed that the sapphire represented a need to pray. It would also bring spiritual healing. If a person was moral they would have a peaceful and happy life.

In the 12th Century Sapphires were seen as prestigious when Pope Innocent III declared that every Pope should have a ring made of pure gold and containing a precious stone.  He selected a Sapphire because he felt this was befitting a man of his position.

During the Middle Ages September Sapphire Birthstones were said to bring good health and protection from disease. Wearing a Sapphire was supposed to heal you against trouble of the eyes and protecting poison.  A person suffering from smallpox would have a Sapphire rubbed on his eyes in order to protect his eyes from the disease.

Throughout our history the September Sapphire Birthstones have played vital roles in many different cultures and through the years have gained different meanings; some are good luck, good health and high class. At Jewellery world we provide rich, glamorous and stylish Sapphire Jewellery that will make the perfect gift you’re a loved one, or even for you. You can be apart of this amazing history today.

The Sapphire birthstone is very popular and has been in demand since ancient times. This Sapphire Birthstoneis said to symbolize truth and consistency,  it is said that those born in September have these traits.  As well as making a brilliant birthday gift the sapphire is also typically given as anniversary gifts, more commonly for 5th, 23rd and 45th wedding anniversary.

Coloured Sapphire Birthstone

When we think of the beautiful Sapphire we always think Blue!  Yet Sapphires come in all different colours including colourless, orange, yellow, white and black.  The only colour that can’t be a Sapphire birthstone is red (and pink) as this is known as the Ruby.

The ‘All about Steve’ Premiere in Los Angeles was it’s usual spill of unforgettable characters and outfits.  Unfortunately it seems that the outfits were unforgettably bad!

Take your eyes away from the startling choice of outfit by Sandra Bullock (hate or love – you decide?) to the utter lack of jewellery.  Her style would have looked great with gold jewellery; small stud earrings would have complimented her look beautifully, along with a matching gold necklace.

Sometimes in order to complete an outfit it’s best to think about coordinating jewellery and try on different pieces before rushing out somewhere. Is your outfit crying out for a gold necklace or earrings to complete it?
