Ivanka Trump's Engagement Ring

Ivanka Trump's Engagement Ring

What a gorgeous engagement ring Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump received from her boyfriend Jared Kushner! This engagement ring is such a classic – large, beautifully designed and a real head-turner.

Even more surprising is that the stunning 5.22 carat diamond ring and platinum comes from Ivanka Trump Fine Jewellery, Ivanka’s own brand.  That mean’s she’d definitely know how much it cost him, plus he’s showing how much he values her work.

If your fiancé-to-be doesn’t own her own brand of jewellery and you are not sure what she likes you can both choose an engagement ring together.  One way is to go browsing in shops and see what she likes. Then you can either buy the ring together or if you are looking to surprise her, go home and purchase a similar engagement ring online. Right now the online jewellery shops are full of great discounts and you can save up to 60% on beautiful engagement rings like these:

Magical Jewellery for the closet Harry Potter Fan

Friday, July 31st, 2009

hermione_glam_harry_potter I just watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in the Cinema and enjoyed every single minute. As a secret Potter fan I waited until I had reread (for the 50th time) Harry Potter book 6 again so I could truly appreciate the movie.

But as much as I love the world of Harry Potter, I find the idea of wearing a red and gold scarf or NHS-style glasses or even a black robe less than appealing. I would rather wear something subtle but magical that only another true Potter fan will appreciate…

I remember Hermione in that stunning pink and purple dress at the Yule Ball in Harry Potter 4. She wore adorable pink flower earrings, very similar to these Ruby and Diamond Studs.

For that magical look, take a look at Mystic Topaz Jewellery. Mystic topaz contains flashes of iridescent colour that sparkle depending on the light – perfect for mystical style. In the three rings below you can choose from orange with flashes of pink, a stunning combination of pink and green or dazzling purples. The perfect gift for a Potter fan like me!

Jewellery and the Credit Crunch

Friday, July 31st, 2009

We’ve now been tightening our belts for months and months and there just doesn’t seem to be an end in sight!

I know how I felt when the credit crunch started over a year ago.  It meant those infrequent trips to the restaurant would become even less.  And I was looking forward to treating myself to a new diamond pendant, so I bought a CZ pendant instead.  And shopping for clothes – well, there were always the sales . . . It’s now a year down the line and the credit crunch is still on with no end in sight.  Here are some top tips to help save some much needed cash when it comes to our jewellery!

1. Try Some Clever Jewellery Alternatives
Instead of getting that very expensive stone, there are cheaper alternatives that look just as good as the real thing. Instead of buying diamonds, try cubic zirconia jewellery, look at garnet jewellery rather than rubies and peridot jewellery instead of emerald. When choosing cocktail rings especially, the most important thing is the colour and sparkle of your stones, so if a cheaper stone offers the same vibrance buy that instead.

2. Size Doesn’t Matter
Do you really need that 2 carat diamond stone?  With a little imagination on stone settings or type of cut of the stone you can find a beautiful piece of jewellery that looks far more expensive than you paid for it. This diamond cluster ring for example, uses a cluster of smaller stones instead of one large diamond.

3. Do Gold Carats Count?
It’s impossible to tell the difference between 18ct or 9ct gold with the naked eye. Good quality nine carat gold is much cheaper than eighteen carat but looks just as good, so be smart with your jewellery and choose better value pieces.

4. Choose White Gold Over Platinum
Platinum is a beautiful metal but it is also very expensive. You can get the same look with white gold, which is usually a fraction of the cost. To maintain that “platinum” brilliance, make sure you clean your white gold jewellery carefully and regularly.

5. Clean Your Jewellery At Home
It can be very expensive you get your jewellery cleaned professionally. Fortunately it is very easy to clean your jewellery at home and we have an excellent selection of professional quality Jewellery Cleaners. For a full break-down of how to clean different types of jewellery, take a look at my post on Spring Cleaning Your Jewellery.

6. Think About Presentation!
If you are buying a gift for that special someone, you’ve already paid for the jewellery and you don’t want to start worrying about spending extra on presentation.  See if gift wrapping and gift boxes are included in the price of your jewellery. All jewellery purchased from Jewellery World comes beautifully packaged in a smart presentation box.

What to do with a few spare rubies . . .

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

And carrying on with another article about the ruby - the birthstone of July. . .

I made an article on diamonds a few months ago about some of the things people were willing to spend their money – included was a diamond grill for a rapper; a car with diamonds; lipstick and wedding dresses covered in diamonds.

For a little bit of fun I’ve done the same with rubies…

First, something for the living room that has everything – a TV with rubies encrusted around the edge of the screen. So if the show is really boring you’ve got something far more beautiful and interesting to look at – 155 rubies!

Here we have a gold and ruby encrusted Mercedes SLR 999, valued at £2.6 million. Can roar up to 217 mph. This eye-popping car is decorated with gold and rubies inside any out – just look at the bling bling steering wheel.

And for something a little more discrete, how about a ruby studded Nokia 8800? Rubies are encrusted all over the front and it will cost £6000. But it is very glamorous . . .

But this has to be my favourite ruby product – this Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick contains actual powdered rubies!

Guerlain Lipstick Rouge G

Guerlain say “Rouge G de Guerlain lipstick contains a precious ruby powder that interacts with daylight to reveal spectacular radiance unachieved to date. At the first contact, lips are immediately defined, smoothed, plumped and hydrated.” This ruby lipstick will set you back $45 but with its elegant casing and pure ruby powder, it might just be worth it!

A Charming History – Charm Bracelets

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

gold_multi_charm_bracelet1The wearing of charm bracelets has been around for centuries.

Charms were originally used as a form of amulet to bring good luck or as a protection against evil spirits.  In Ancient Egypt a person wore a charm as a show of faith towards their gods and it was also supposed to identify them to the gods in their afterlife.

Medieval knights wore charms as a protection in battle and a memory of their loved ones back home.

More recently charm bracelets became highly fashionable when Queen Victoria was presented with a charm bracelet.  She liked it so much that she had many made for her and because of this was affectionately known as the Charm Queen.

It was during the Second World War that charm bracelets became really popular around the world.  Troops were posted to many foreign posts and they would buy gifts for the family back home.  Often these were made into charms and worn as a keepsake by the soldiers loved ones. Charm bracelet souvenirs were extremely popular due to variety of the trinkets available (usually wooden carvings or beaten tin to represent different objects) and the size of the bracelet – perfect to carry home.

After World War II, charm bracelets became extremely popular with teenage girls and especially in America where you could purchase a cheap charm from gumball machines.  Since then charm bracelets have been fashionable amongst teens and remain a great fashion item to this day. Charms are a lovely way to mark special occasions and make a great gift. One charming idea is to give young children a charm bracelet with just one charm. Then as the years pass family members can add a charm until the child has a beautiful keepsake that can be passed down to their own children.

We have a wonderful range of Gold Charms at Jewelleryworld.com – and remember, these charms can also be worn as pendants.
