The previous record breaker was a blue diamond ring weighing 6.04 carats which sold for £5.2 million in Hong Kong in 2007. This incredible ring clears the previous record by a cool million pounds an impressive jump even if we weren’t in the midst of a recession.

The blue diamond ring was purchased by an anonymous bidder who will have the honour of naming this show-stopping diamond. When I got married ten years ago my husband-to-be presented me with a stunning yellow gold diamond engagement ring.
